The Adoration of Jenna Fox (Jenna Fox Chronicles)

The Adoration of Jenna Fox - Mary E. Pearson The Adoration of Jenna Fox is an interesting examination of what is to be so-called "human". The twist regarding Jenna is rather easy to determine early on but the core of the book focuses on Jenna examining her life before and after the accident and coming to terms with the result. The inclusion of bioengineered species altering and encroaching upon native species was fairly accurate and not a sci-fi fantasy realm. This situation is ongoing today and it is a considerable concern. I did feel as though the "human" aspect, including the percentages allowable to be bioengineered and the "ethics" committee had too much of a pro-life leaning for me to fully enjoy. There are aspects of the book that are clearly pointing towards a religious/pro-life agenda, such as indicating souls (including at the "cluster of cells" in the womb stage), remembering a baptism, being in the womb in general and so-forth. I also balk at the statement in the epilogue that says faith and science are two sides of the same coin. Um, no. But aside from the scatterings of religious elements (although they are not terribly in your face), the book was decent. All of the scientific aspects are not accurate, but they are an interesting attempt with the sci-fi genre. Overall an enjoyable book but ultimately forgettable.
