This was my introduction to the Throne of Glass series and I was not displeased. Celaena is a tough, take no shit kind of girl and I loved it. There was action, there was characterization and there was humor (perhaps not to everyone but I found Celaena's comments and thoughts entertaining, especially when she wanted to kick ass). I look forward to the rest of the novellas and seeing what Maas makes of the novel format. I've heard some mixed reviews so I'm even more intrigued after enjoying this novella.
I appreciated that Celaena worked to free slaves but I disliked the following statement:
"While he might not trust Rolfe, it didn't bother him that a hundred innocent souls were about to be traded like cattle." Location 422
I agree with the sentiment but cattle are innocent as well and the comparison becomes moot to me as one who hates speciesism.
