I really enjoyed McCafferty's Jessica Darling series which follows Jessica from the age of sixteen until her mid-twenties. So I was intrigued when McCafferty put out what essentially is a prequel to the Jessica Darling series, with Jessica entering seventh grade and only being twelve.
Many of the cast members found in Jessica Darling are found here in all their tween glory (well that cannot possibly be right, glory at twelve? ha), including one of my favorites: Marcus Flutie. We come to find out how Jessica meets and/or becomes friends with Hope and Marcus and shows the breakdown of her friendship with Bridget.
There is typical middle school drama, including with friends and boys and finding your place in the oddball world of the social ladder. I think this book would be more enjoyable for those of a younger demographic than myself, perhaps individuals in middle school themselves. However, for fans of the Jessica Darling series I would say that it is a worthwhile read since it is brief and you get more insight into the world of Jessica Darling.
