This Is What Happy Looks Like is a sweet story but nothing to write home about. It reminded me of an amalgamation of various romantic movies over the years, but nothing spectacular. The movies it is compared to in reviews are accurate but only for a snippet of the story, such as You've Got Mail, since the two meet by email and don't know who the other person is. Overall I would say watching one of the movies it is compared to may be more enjoyable and a briefer commitment (which may speak horribly of the book since I prefer books to movies). But honestly, the book is good, just not original or terribly engrossing.
I did enjoy the characters of Graham and Ellie, although I felt the storylines behind each character were a bit eye roll worthy. The drama involving Ellie and her politician dad simply felt unnecessary and tedious.
