Wild & Steamy

Wild & Steamy - Meljean Brook, Jill Myles, Carolyn Crane 3.5 stars

"The Blushing Bounder" by Meljean Brook was a sweet story, although it could have been fleshed out a bit more. The world is what really interested me and makes me look forward to Brook's Iron Seas series. This one was not wild or steamy, just sweet. 4 stars

"Vixen" by Jill Myles was ridiculous. I went from sweet demure love with Brook's story to a porno with Myles. The story focuses on a were-fox that is constantly in heat and is sent two were-cats to guard her. Well, the little plot that there was ends up with all three of them being in bed together. It was all rather worthy of much eye rolling. I do not see myself being interested in Myles books, especially since her world seemed ho-hum as well (aka all her books focus on sex, sex and more sex). I think this fits the title of the anthology but not the two stories included with it. 1 star

"Kitten-Tiger and the Monk" by Carolyn Crane was my favorite of the three. To fully enjoy the story you would have to have read the first two books of the series, otherwise you will not understand the circumstances, the world or the relationships. (I noted many people online complaining that they just "didn't get" the world and thought the storyline was boring--which it may be if you do not know a thing about the world! It is 2.5 of a series people!) The story focused on Sophia, who I honestly did not like going into the novella. However, this story put Sophia in perspective. I really wonder whether any of this new information about Sophia or the world made it into book 3 as it would certainly add new angles. Again, this one was not heavy on the "steam" but it was very enjoyable and made me look forward to book 3 of Crane's trilogy all the more. 5 stars!
