The Spellman Files is about a wacky PI family, with the narrator being Izzy, their daughter. The beginning of the book has a bit of background on Izzy as a child and her antics, all which I found rather amusing. The book started out on a really good humor foot, however, I felt it fizzled pretty early on.
There is a lot going on and the story bounces around a lot and never really gets in-depth. There is limited characterization, although this could easily be attributed to the type of character Izzy is and the way she chose to describe individuals. However, I felt the author could have given the story and characters more depth. Many times it felt like I was reading a movie or tv script rather than a novel, which is not something I look for in books (and I would never bother reading a tv script).
Overall there were some humorous parts but it became diluted quickly for me and the story/characters needed depth. I will read the next in the series but I really hope to see growth, however, I doubt it will be present.
