I did not terribly dislike Coraline but it did not hold my interest either. The premise was interesting and I was intrigued to read it when I saw movie previews some time ago. While the story was written well, albeit in a somewhat boring manner in my opinion, it felt younger, as in children's vs. YA, than I would have preferred. Also, I was hoping that the main character of Coraline would have been more interesting than she was. Yes she encounters unusual characters and events but she herself did not impress me. Some moments in the book were creepy and I enjoyed those but overall it did not appeal to me. I hope Gaiman's adult works are more enjoyable.
