Twilight: The Graphic Novel, Vol. 1 - Young Kim, Stephenie Meyer 2.5 stars

I'm not a big fan or reader of graphic novels but the artwork in this one was the best of my limited history with them. That being said, I found the story included limited and not properly reflective of the original Twilight. This certainly did not add anything to the series or hold any real purpose for a reader of the book to want to read the graphic novel.

The artwork was quite consistent, which seems to be a problem other graphic artists have. I thought the drawings of Bella were particularly well done. One thing that bothered me, however, was the "teardrop" that was on one of Bella's cheeks for about a quarter or so of the drawings of her. She was not crying or wet in these pictures, at least not in most of them, so what was the point of it? A graphic artist detail I am failing to understand? It was mainly on the left cheek but was occasionally on the right as well. In addition, I began noticing that the backgrounds of the drawings were extremely well done--so I looked more closely. I cannot confirm whether or not I am correct but I do believe some of the background art is made from actual photos made to look like drawings (which there are programs for) with some details actually drawn on. Such scenes include ones at the beach (where if you look closely it seems ridiculous to have drawn characters seemingly standing on a real beach), some of the shots with vehicles in them are much more detailed than others that are clearly drawn and even two of the wolf drawings. The colored wolf drawings are in stark contrast to the black and white wolf drawings, especially the side views. Again, this could have easily been accomplished by the photo drawing effect and then some added details. I don't know if this is common occurrence in graphic novels or what but it rather feels like cheating to me.
