I really enjoyed the first book in the Midnight Breed series. I can understand the comparison between this book (or series) and the Black Dagger Brotherhood. However, Adrian does have her own take on the whole vampire genre and I enjoyed her storyline. I especially liked the twist in the vampire existence--that they descended from aliens and all the drama involved in Gen Ones and Rogues. It is not written quite at the same level as the BDB, but it did have the benefit of lacking the incessant mentionings of rap music and ridiculous slang talk which Ward seems entirely too fond of using. Kiss of Midnight was a good book with a few flaws, it just was not as absorbing to warrant a solid 4 or 5 rating. Overall, Adrian is entertaining and the books are a quick read--I will continue the series.
