Lola and the Boy Next Door was an adorable read featuring two very likable characters in Lola and Cricket. I really enjoyed Lola's personality and her Pretty in Pink-esque interest in clothes design. Cricket's interest in engineering added quite well to his awkward and sweet nature.
Overall the story is about the trials and tribulations of young love. I thought the storyline of the "boy next door" and the two having known each other since they were young was rather sweet. I also liked that the two main characters from Anna and the French Kiss, Anna and St. Clair, were in this novel as well.
This book doesn't reinvent the wheel by any means but it is written well and features very likable characters. Perkins is one of the few writers whose writing makes "chick-lit" bearable. I look forward to the next novel.
